Getting On

Sometimes getting into work starts long before writing a CV. Getting On is one-to-one support to help you build confidence and take your next step, at your own pace.

Who it’s for

Getting On is for people in Wigan Borough who aren’t working right now, or don’t feel ready to take that next step yet. You might be dealing with:

  • low confidence or self-esteem
  • stress or poor emotional wellbeing
  • difficult relationships or conflict at home
  • parenting pressures
  • feeling isolated
  • neurodiversity
  • not being sure about your skills or what you’re good at

You do not need to have everything figured out before you contact us. That is the whole point.

Support built around you

There’s no one-size-fits-all programme. We’ll work out together what’s getting in the way and what would really help. That could be building confidence, communication and conflict skills, routines and everyday life, emotional wellbeing, connecting with local groups and volunteering, help with relationships or parenting, or someone to come with you to meetings and appointments.

What it looks like

Most people work with us for around 4 to 8 sessions. Each one is usually 1 to 2 hours, weekly or every other week, at Ashland House, Ince Community Centre, Sunshine House or another local venue near you.

Sometimes a brew, a biscuit and the time to properly talk is just as important as the formal work.

How to start

No complicated referral forms. No endless hoops. Contact us yourself, or ask an organisation you already work with to introduce you.

Start with a conversation

You don’t need a professional referral, and you don’t need to know exactly what help you need.
