Take Time To Talk

Free support for families in Wigan Borough who want less conflict at home and more understanding between them.

Free Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund

How we get on with the people closest to us affects everything. Not getting on with a teenage son or daughter, a brother or sister, or your child’s other parent is stressful. It can lead to anxiety, and make it harder to cope at work or school, or with money.

A trained facilitator will help you think about what has gone wrong and why, and what needs to change so the relationship stops causing so much upset for everyone.

Parents and children or teenagers

We work with parents on their own, with their children, or both. The aim is to help you understand each other, see things from each other’s point of view and agree how to make home life happier. We have a dedicated children’s worker, so your child’s voice is part of it.

Separated parents

As separated parents, you’ll be in each other’s lives for a long time: school events, big decisions, maybe one day a wedding or a grandchild. Getting on with your ex is one of the greatest gifts you can give your children.

Many parents tell us they live with stress and worry every day because of their relationship with their ex. Small changes can take that pressure off you and the children.

“It has minimised the conflict between us and our teenagers. It has made a big difference to all of us.”

Lynn and Greg, parents of teenagers

Last year, 54 families (171 people) worked with us through Take Time To Talk.
